Send A Mom A Smile

March 26th, 2010 lynnmomevolve No comments

I remember one day, a few years ago, when an older gentleman behind me in the check-out line at the grocery store caught my eye. He winked, smiled, and said so sincerely and sweetly, “You’re doing a great job, Mom!” That one comment brightened my day to no end, and at the same time, brought an emotional lump to my throat and a tear to my eye. It was beyond a simple compliment, although that was wonderful enough in and of itself. It was also an acknowledgement that even a perfect stranger recognized and appreciated everything that I do for my children, and a validation that, “Hey, I’m doing alright with this mom-thing!”

I’ve before and since received numerous other compliments over the years regarding our children’s behavior when we are out dining or shopping, at a school event, a friend’s party, or some other social function. I am grateful for every compliment, and each one makes me feel pride and goes a long way in reminding me that all of the challenges of motherhood are worth it. But it was that one kind man’s words, which must have been shared at just the moment I really needed to hear them, that still make me smile and get a little “misty” to this day.

Please join us in acknowledging moms that you think are doing a great job!
